&lt;p&gt;It really is the same with one’s moods, I think. The wrong approach is to believe that they are illusions. They are real. Depression, anxiety, listlessness – these are as real as the weather – AND EQUALLY NOT UNDER ONE’S CONTROL. Not one’s fault.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;BUT&lt;/p&gt;

This should surprise very few of you, I didn&amp;#8217;t unless I don&amp;#8217;t know you in meatspace. I was into painting my nails for a bit, but that was mostly as a way to get me to stop biting them. (It worked) &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#8217;m still not overly femme. S&lt;span&gt;tating this, I occasionally get the strong urge to fuss with my hair. It was usually just the urge to cut it all off, since for the longest time I had shoulder length hair or longer. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Now I have a pixie cut, and I really don&amp;#8217;t want to go any shorter, so the urge to &amp;#8220;do something&amp;#8221; isn&amp;#8217;t as clear. It&amp;#8217;s either a &amp;#8220;dye it&amp;#8221; urge, which aren&amp;#8217;t too strong ( because I don&amp;#8217;t really want to go darker, or blonder, and most urges are &amp;#8220;I miss my green hair&amp;#8221; or other not normally found on people colors) or a &amp;#8220;learn how to style it&amp;#8221; thing. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;So this is all leading up to me sitting here, rambling at you with a plastic bag on my head as I let the henna do it&amp;#8217;s thing. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I want do more &amp;#8220;girly&amp;#8221; things recently. Get back into painting my nails, learn how to &amp;#8220;do&amp;#8221; my hair, maybe wear make-up occasionally. Wear nicer clothing than just tee shirts and jeans.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Maybe I&amp;#8217;m just trying to convince myself that by putting effort into myself I&amp;#8217;m worth the effort. That I&amp;#8217;m worth the time it takes to do something just for the sake of looking pretty.
